NBA Playoffs - LeBron vs Kobe Inevitable?

So far in the NBA Playoffs it seems like the pre-determined matchup of Kobe vs LeBron in the Finals is going to happen. The Cavs, currently up 2-0 on Detroit, have looked nearly unbeatable and almost are at home (39-2 during regular season). LeBron has loosened up all of his teammates and seems to be having a great time on the court while accomplishing his mission of bringing Cleveland an NBA Title. The Cavs have blown Detroit out in both games so far, granted Game 2 got closer after LBJ & Co. were taken out of the game.

Kobe and the Lakers have looked equally dominant in their 1st round series vs the Utah Jazz. The Lakers seem as if they are on cruise control until they get to alteast the Western Conference Finals. As with the Cavs, game 2 for the Lakers was a little closer than anticipated though the Lakers prevailed by double-digits in the end.

These two teams seem so very similar as they make their trek towards the Finals. Both squads are led by superstars of the game. Both squads are headed in the backcourt by very good guards. Mo Williams, Delonte West, and Daniel Gibson for Cleveland and Derek Fisher, Jordan Farmar, and Sasha Vujacic for LA. In the front court both teams have a solid bigs that have been around the block before, with the exception of Lakers C Andrew Bynum. Cleveland's Joe Smith, Zydrunas Ilgauskas and Anderson Varejao. The Lake Show bring Pau Gasol, Lamar Odom, and the up and coming Trevor Ariza to the mix.

The only difference in these teams may just be the conferences they play in. The Cavs are in the weaker Eastern Conference, where top teams like Boston and Orlando have struggled early. However, in the stronger Western Conference, the Denver Nuggets have looked just as good, if not better, than the Lakers in their first round matchup vs the New Orleans Hornets.

Time will tell if the preconceived notion that the Cavs and Lakers will play in the Finals. Anything can happen in the Playoffs and both teams will undoubtedly have to battle willing foes in order to advance, but so far things look right on track.
