Pittsburgh vs Philly..again

It is getting a bit old that there are still people out there who feel that Philadelphia is a better sports town than Pittsburgh. Some Philly fans claim that during our lifetime we haven't even seen all the titles. So, being born in 1989, I have been alive for 5 championships (Pens 1991, '92, 2009 - Steelers 2005, '08). In that same time period, Philadelphia has been able to win 1 (Phillies 2008). So in the last 20 years, Pittsburgh leads 5-1. Now, there are those who say Pittsburgh isn't as good as Philly because they get "2.5 million people at their victory parades." Well listen, Philadelphia has 1,517,550 people. Pittsburgh has 316,718 people. The Penguins 2009 Stanley Cup victory parade drew an estimated 375,000 people. Thats about 60,000 more people than the actual population of the city. Now, despite several Philly people claiming that 2.5 million were at their parade, the numbers say that it was around 750,000, which is about 765,000 less than the actual population of the city. So, based on the fact that Pittsburgh's parade was about 118% of the city's population and Philly's was at about 49% of the city's population; it would appear that Pittsburgh is yet again the better sports town.

I know I've gotten into this before but with one less professional team (no NBA team, while Philly has the 76ers) Pittsburgh now leads the title count by a score of 14 (Steelers - 6, 1974, '75, '78, '79, 2005, '08. Penguins - 3, 1991, '92, 2009. Pirates - 5, 1909, '25, '60, '71, '79) to 10 (Eagles - 3, 1948, '49, '60. Phillies - 2, 1980, 2008. Flyers - 2, 1974, '75. 76ers - 3, 1955, '67, '83).

4 more titles than Philly with one less sports team. The Steelers also have all 6 titles in the Super Bowl with a united NFL while the Eagles have 0 Super Bowls and won all titles before the expansion. The World Series, Stanley Cup, and NBA Championship are all clean for both teams. So if we're talking about winning modern titles for each sport, Pittsburgh actually leads 14-7. I'll give the Eagles their titles because I know Philly fans would just cry about it.

So now that all the facts are on the table. The titles, the ridiculous "parade attendance" numbers, and even, for my generation, the titles during our lifetime. If you're reading this, regardless of where you're from or who you cheer for, you can't honestly look at these facts and think that there is even a comparison of the two cities.

To all Philly fans: Whenever you quit making excuses and worry more about the game you're watching than throwing snow balls at a man in a Santa Claus outfit is when you'll earn my respect. Until then, I wish the Eagles the best of luck in losing NFC Championship games and the Flyers good luck in meeting the Penguins in the playoffs every year.
