Loss of a Rising Star

Tuesday night the world lost a rising star when former All-State and All WPIAL Volleyball Player Joseph Irwin III better known as "Murph" or "Murphy" to his friends, died of a ruptured aorta at Duquesne University.

Mr. Irwin led the Bethel Park Volleyball team to their best season in school history last year, when they appeared in the WPIAL Championship Game for the first time in school history and advanced into the State Playoffs. He was described by his teammates and coaches as one of the most competitive kids to step out onto the volleyball court. Off the court "Murph" was known as a real easy going kid that would do anything to make you smile.

Mr. Irwin, 19, of Bethel Park, was a freshman at Duquesne University, where he was majoring in physical therapy, as well as a star Volleyball player for the club team. He is survived by his parents, Joseph J. Irwin Jr., and Eileen Irwin, and a sister, Kaitlin M. Irwin.

I think I speak for everyone here at The Big Cat's Sports Show when I say that our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.
